Department Overview

We have an authorized sworn strength of 776 sworn men and women and counting.  Just this year, we added many new recruits to our ranks, and those officers have now begun their career paths in law enforcement.  Some may choose to remain as patrol officers throughout their career while others may compete to perform specialized work in a wide range of units.  These officers will go as far as their determination takes them, and the RPD prides itself on the diverse career opportunities and training available to all officers.  Our training academy is nationally renowned for its high standards and state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, and instructors.

The Raleigh Police Department serves 380,000 residents of Raleigh, the capital city of North Carolina, and the department is internationally accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
